On March 10th, our little Lily-Bug turned 3. As I did last year, I interviewed her for posterity’s and comedy’s sake.
1. What is your favorite color?
Answer: Purple
My thoughts: Okay, right off the bat, Lily outs me. You see, I actually forgot to interview her on her birthday. I actually forgot for 2 whole weeks, and in that time, her favorite color may have legitimately changed. She has loved pink and blue for TWO YEARS, and a week after her birthday, she has started to say purple is her new favorite sometimes. When talking about the color of something (a shirt or a cup or whatever), “I wish it was purple because I LOVE purple!”
2. What is your favorite animal?
Puppy
For as long as she was old enough to express a preference, Lily has been obsessed with cats. For her birthday, she wanted a “Pink Kitty Party.” That gradually evolved into a Kitty AND Puppy party, and lately she really has been saying that puppies are her favorite. Hmmm…I feel like my editorial is treating this interview like the Newlywed Game…I will give her points for this response…
3. What is your favorite song:
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
True that. She is obsessed with that song. I have videos of her singing it 8,000 times in a row, so she’s right on target with this one. She liked the stop-motion Rudolph movie this past Christmas, and liked the absolutely DREADFUL sequel even more. We listen to Burl Ives Christmas songs all year. We’re festive like that.
4. What is your favorite book?
The mermaid book [Mermaid’s Treasure]
She does love this book. It has just different information about Mermaids, and way too much text to read, but we just flip through it and I tell her summaries of some of the different parts.
5. What is your favorite movie?
Toy Story (3)
Yep. I do want to note that for some reason she is scared of “the hand” part in Toy Story 2. It’s a very minor part where a hand reaches in a trash can for Woody during his dream, but she makes us skip that part or gets really upset. She is actually spooked by a few parts in different movies that you wouldn’t think are all that scary. She makes me skip parts of a couple of Yo Gabba Gabba episodes, too (when Plex’s batteries run down and when Brobee wears clown makeup). Well, I guess clowns can be super-creepy, but she’s not supposed to know that yet, right?
6. What is your favorite TV show?
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
Yep. She still loves YGG, too. She has briefly gotten into other shows (Clifford, Octonauts, Little Einsteins, Sid the Science Kid), but MMC is her FAVORITE by far.
7. What is your favorite thing to eat?
Oatmeal and milk.
This girl LOVES chocolate (and said that when I asked a follow-up question about her favorite dessert), but she really can gobble up some oatmeal. At the beginning of the school year, she answered this question for her teachers and said oatmeal then, too. Makes me feel bad that I only serve it to her once a week or so! She said her favorite fruit is strawberries and that she also loves cheese. She said her favorite food for dinner is pancakes and fruit sauce. She doesn’t actually eat pancakes for dinner, but it’s not surprising she said that since she still mixes up breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She’s getting better, but for some reason she always gets mixed up. It’s kind of funny that such a smart little girl has such difficulty with something we talk about every day. Oh well – she’ll get there! As for the “pancakes and fruit sauce,” she means that she dips her pancakes in fruit purees (i.e. baby food) instead of syrup. We started that when she first turned 1 since there was no need to start her on syrup, and she still loves it. We can’t get her to eat syrup even if we want to at this point. Not that I think she NEEDS to start eating syrup, but it’s pretty silly when we go out to eat, because we can’t order her pancakes or waffles unless we want to bring baby food with us. She won’t eat them without her “fruit sauce.” I do feel a little odd trying to convince her try use syrup (so that she’ll be more flexible)…like some sort of junk food peddler. Maybe it bodes well for her future that she doesn’t give into the pressure!
8. What is your favorite restaurant?
Chick-fil-A.
I think she would have said Gatti-Town or Chuck E. Cheese if she thought of those as restaurants, but Chick-fil-A is one of the few restaurants she knows the name of. She has only eaten there a handful of times, but I guess it stuck with her. She got to meet Mickey Mouse there a few months ago, so maybe that’s what raised it to “favorite” status.
9. What is your favorite store?
The grocery store…actually, Publix.
Haha…Lily and I are on Team Publix and Michael is on Team BiLo in our house. I love that she felt the need to clarify her allegiance.
10. What is your favorite toy?
Kitty
She means Annabelle – her kitty lovey. SO true. Other than that, she still loves any type of figure/character.
11. Who is your best friend?
Mommy
To be honest, that’s true. She LOVES her daddy, but is quite the mama’s girl. When I asked her who her best KID friend is, she said Celia. That’s a little girl in her class at school, and the only child I have ever met who loves cats more than Lily! The teacher has made a point to tell me that she plays with Celia the most at school, so this seems to be accurate.
12. What is your favorite thing to do?
Play games
Well, I’d think it’s probably “play talk.” When I asked her what her favorite game is, she said Candyland.
13. What do you want to be when you grow up?
Nobody. I just want to be Lily again.
As I have noted before, this is not a misunderstanding that she thinks she’ll be someone else. She just doesn’t want to be anything other than a Lily who lives with Mommy and Daddy. She got mopey for a second, but I just couldn’t resist trying the question for the sake of the interview. Poor dear. She wasn’t upset for long, and then proceeded to interview me, so I didn’t feel bad about it.
Well, that’s it! I was pleased that she seemed to give her answers careful consideration, and she definitely knows what she likes. Love this girl!
On another birthday-related note, I took her to Toys ‘R Us on her birthday last year to pick out one toy and to get her balloon and crown. She also ended up riding this ride:
So, I decided that we’d make the same trip this year to spend some birthday money. She was just as excited to see her old pal, Tigger at the end of a fun shopping trip!
