Yesterday, I took 188 photos.
I’m only showing you 77.
If you scroll faster, you might be able to overlook the fact that many of them look almost identical.
Except to a mommy’s eye, of course.
The subtle variations in Emma’s “I shall drool to the left” smile and her “I shall drool straight ahead” smile are very important.
Sunday – April 9th
Saturday night, I snuck into Lily’s room and put her Easter basket on the end of her bed. On Sunday morning, Emma woke up first, so Michael and I watched Lily on the video monitor to see what she thought of her Easter basket as she woke up.
We watched.
And we watched.
We watched as she woke up, and lay peacefully in bed, sucking her thumb and staring at the ceiling.
So we made tapping noises over the intercom on her monitor.
And she sat up.
And she looked at her basket.
And she lay her head back down on her pillow and waited patiently and quietly.
So we made more tapping.
And more tapping.
And we played ringtones.
And we played songs.
And still she lay there.
After a few minutes, she briefly sat up again and looked down toward the foot of her bed, where her Minnie Mouse basket was clearly jammed full of toys and candy that had not been there the night before.
And she lay back down.
And we gave up.
When we finally went in there, she was excited to look at everything, but apparently just thought she was supposed to wait for us. Since she hadn’t made a single sound to indicate she was awake, who knows how long she would have waited. She is such a good little rule follower. She still hasn’t gotten out of bed without permission even one time since she first moved to her big girl bed in July.
Since this is the same thing that happened with her Christmas stocking last Christmas, we again explained that if something is on her bed in the morning, she is allowed to get it without waiting, so maybe that lesson will stick by next Christmas. What a good girl, though.
After she enjoyed some M&M’s (her favorite part), we went down to eat breakfast while I sneaked outside to hide the eggs “from the Easter Bunny.” Then, we went on our egg hunt! She was very excited to find her 23 eggs, and 1 egg with a paci in it for Emma.
I may or may not have cheated and took this week’s Tuesday picture on a Sunday – I just loved their matching shirts! If she changes drastically by tomorrow, I’ll re-take the pictures. Pinky swear.
I loved these bunny ear pictures, but my stupid slow shutter speed left them blurry. You know you have a problem when you’re starting to consider some sort of studio lighting setup for your den…
The cutest little bunny:
The girls napped after Lily had ANOTHER Easter egg lunch, and then we went back outside to enjoy the gorgeous weather.
Lily was hopping all around the yard with her jump rope, pretending to be Roo (from Winnie the Pooh) who was on an expedition to capture Heffalumps. In the movie, he has a rope, so she wanted a bundled up jump rope as an accessory.
She kept saying that she really needed a blue shirt to complete her costume, so we eventually fixed her up.
Had to re-crop this one – I just love her posture/expression for some reason.
Emma was content to watch and drool from the sidelines.
Couldn’t resist brightening this one up – the perfectly capture drool drop is classic.
Checking out the contrails from the airplanes flying overhead.
In HUGE news (to us), Lily finally went down her slide for the first time EVER! We have had this since last May, but it is, admittedly, a very steep slide and she never quite worked up the courage until now. She loved it!
She had even more fun trying to climb up it, though (which is how she finally got the courage to slide DOWN it).
But she did get a little frustrated at times that should climb all the way to the top by herself. Poor Michael had to haul her up the rest of the way.
I’m sure you’re sick of all these nearly-identical photos by now. Sorry about that.
Scroll faster.
Lily also enjoyed pretending to bring me different foods and drinks from various Winnie the Pooh characters she imagined as living all over the yard, and having Michael “lock her up” in various parts of the yard (which she then escaped and laughed like crazy).
And one picture brightened-up for Lily…
I was the brains and Michael was the brawn behind a game of “helicopter until your boots fly off” – an instant classic.
And here’ san example of what happens if you try to ignore Lily and have an adult conversation…
I realize now it might look like she’s giving him a kiss, but it’s more that she grabs you by the head and gets right up next to your face so you can’t avoid making eye contact with her. Very socially appropriate.
After all that exercise, we clearly felt that Lily needed to eat a massive chocolate bunny for dessert.
As usual, she enjoyed toying with her food before eating it. “Hop, hop, hop. Oh, no, Lily…what are you going to do? Don’t eat my nose! AHHHHHH!”
Happy Easter!

More repetitive photos than you can shake a stick at
PS. I re-cropped a photo I posted the other day, and I’m re-posting it here so the cropped version will end up in the mythical book I will one day print.
