Like most second-time moms, I find myself with not nearly as much time to wax poetic about baby #2 who, fortunately, seems to be growing just dandy without my obsessing over whether he or she (henceforth, “it” until Wednesday…we can’t wait to find out!) is growing fingernails or hair follicles today. To the baby’s credit, it is not content to be ignored, however, and has been a very active baby thus far. Even at that first ultrasound, it was flapping its little paddle-like arms and legs all over the place, and was twisting, stretching, and kicking all around during the 12-week ultrasound.
When I was pregnant with Lily, I felt those first swooshes and flippy-feelings were clearly felt right at 17 weeks. It was gentle and sweet, and it took a couple of flips for me to be sure that I was really feeling movement.
This time, I felt confusing swooshy feelings around 15/16 weeks, and I thought I might be feeling movement. Then, right at 17 weeks to the day, I felt a sharp ninja-kick to my insides. No gentle swooshes with this little tyke – just repeated pummelings to my insides by a tot no bigger than a turnip. For the past two weeks, this baby has made his or her presence known with vigorous kicks, especially when my waistband is too tight or my torso is somehow scrunched up.
Active.
Bossy.
Already making sure he/she will not be lost in the shuffle.
Bring it on, #2!
Can’t wait to get a peek at you on Wednesday!
