Triple the falls, triple the fun!

Fortunately, I’m referring to waterfalls, and not more unfortunate tumbles.  Michael’s parents came up mid-May to visit with us, and we ventured up to Triple Falls in Bryson State Forest in NC for a picnic and short hike.  It was supposed to be a short hike and a picnic, but as it was pouring rain when we got there, we picnicked in the car and headed for the falls after the rain stopped.  It is such a pretty place, and Lily just LOVES stomping in the freezing cold water.  Good times, good times!  Unfortunately, we didn’t get any pictures of Michael’s dad.  I get so happy to have a photographer around who 1) isn’t me! and 2) takes better pictures than I do, that I get lazy about taking pictures and then he ends up getting left out.  :-(  We are seeing them this weekend, and I will make sure I get some pictures of Papa Bogle to put up here.

Anyway here are some pictures from our trip:

So, that’s it!  That was my attempt to write a post like a normal person would.  Did I pull it off?

Don’t Rain on My Parade

So it’s a bit of a stretch, but I’d like to talk about rain.

And parades.

They are entirely unrelated, but through the magic of titling this post, I have now linked them together to save you from having to skip past 2 separate posts in your quest to find whatever it is you’re here to find, be it videos of Lily’s dance moves or pictures of her in her awesome glasses.

First off, let’s talk about rain.

Lily has a friend named Emery whose mama, Sarah, is one of those awesome, spontaneous mamas who lets her daughter play in the rain, smear cool whip all over the table as “art,” and just generally be a kid in the most fun ways possible.

Lily has one of those mamas who tries to let Lily have fun, but literally has to sit on her hands when the blueberry juice goes flying.

Through getting to know Sarah and Emery, I have tried to stop and ask myself, at times, “What would Sarah do?”  If the answer is, “well, Sarah would let Emery pile mulch on top of her head,” then I sometimes try to let Lily pile mulch on top of her head.

In the spirit of “What would Sarah do?” Michael took Lily out to play in the rain in May.  At first, Lily said, “no no no,” but she quickly warmed up to the idea once she realized she could stomp in the water in the gutters.

Fun fun!

On an entirely unrelated note (see above for info about how my title exempts me from having to provide a segue), Lily also went to a parade in May.

It was some sort of Scottish parade.

Prince Something-or-other was supposed to be there, but we never saw him.

Aren’t I just a fount of knowledge?

Lily’s favorite part was waving at Miss South Carolina.

Hi there!  Here are all 3 of us.  What a rare sight!

Baby face. You’ve got the cutest little…oh my goodness what happened to your face!

As Lily is now a full-blown toddler, toddling here and there and everywhere, there are bound to be accidents.  In mid-May, Lily did have her worst tumble yet, and really gave herself quite the boo boo.  I’ll start off with these pictures from the day after to reassure you that she didn’t let it keep her down.

This is her “oops!” expression.  For some reason, when you say “oops!”, she tilts her head over to side.  We can’t figure out why, but it’s cute!

So, to back up a day, Lily and I were hosting some of her sweet baby friends and their Mamas for a playdate.

And here’s a blurry picture of Lily.  Why do I like this picture?  Well, note the lack of an unsightly head wound.  That’s about to change.

IMG_7592

I can’t tell you exactly what happened.  She had started walking around a lot with her hands behind her back, looking like she was constantly inspecting things.  It was very official looking, and very cute, but clearly dangerous because when she trips, she can’t get her arms around her body fast enough to help catch herself.  So she was toddling around on the cement patio, and I think she got tangled up with another kid, and skidded headfirst on the patio.  You could feel her head crack on the slab, and scared the snot out of me.  She wailed for a few minutes, but really did seem okay after she calmed down.

This was the unfortunate result:

IMG_7603

Ouch!  In this picture, she is actually sad because we were having a disagreement about dinner, but it does sum up how Mommy still felt about the little injury.  Poor baby.  :-(

A little bandaid-ing helped tone it down a bit…

But then…

IMG_7611

…she started to get really upset again!

IMG_7606

See here signing “all done?”

It was actually the fault of this musical butterfly…

IMG_7607

I turned it on, and she did not care for at all, so this cry was entirely unrelated to the head injury.  Don’t you feel better?

She really ended up being okay.

IMG_7604 ,

It was a painful event for her, and a scarier event for me.

Can I PLEASE just wrap her in bubble wrap for a few years?!?!?

Cookie Monster

At some point, every child must learn how to lick chocolate from their fingers.  For Lily, that day has come.

IMG_7823

Although she was quasi-motivated…

IMG_7821

…it seems that Carolina baseball was more important than her instruction that day. IMG_7824 IMG_7825

She wouldn’t even look at the camera for a last “awww…look at the cute baby all covered in chocolate picture.”  This is her response to “Where’s Mommy, Lily?”  SOOOOO like her Daddy it seems.  Although, she was probably more intrigued by the clapping and multitude of hats involved in baseball than the actual sport.

IMG_7826

Ahhh…success finally!  Good job, little Cookie Monster!

IMG_7827

(Okay, so she actually looks sort of worried in this picture, but it’s the best I could do, people!)
