Oh, ho ho! I do crack myself up sometimes.
You see, we traveled WEST (to Alabama) to see the WEST family.
Ergo, I am clever on multiple levels.
Shazam!
Sadly, I’m about to lose my clever points when I’m forced to admit that I apparently wasn’t clever enough to get my camera out during this journey.
Rats.
In any case, the reason for our visit was attend the wedding Ashley West and Travis Thompson: these shockingly gorgeous people here in this picture I stole from Ashley’s Facebook page due to my aforementioned un-cleverness of not taking many pictures.

Yes, I know people this pretty.
Shazam!
Ashley, her sister Stefanie (who is our age…born in ‘83, remember?), and their family are dear friends of Michael’s since forever, and dear friends of mine since he decided to share them with me.
Stefanie is apparently a major reason Michael and I are together, since she reportedly told him at some point during our early courtship, that I was being a ninny, but if he out waited my ninny-ness, then things might work out.
Kudos, Stef. Still owe you for that one!
The West-Thompson wedding (Note: I’m too lazy to look up if the man’s or woman’s last name goes first in this type of situation…sorry! Fortunately, I’m too precise to not waste MORE time and effort typing out the fact that I’m too lazy to look up the correct usage. Shazam?) was Labor Day weekend. So, we got back from Aruba on Wednesday night, stayed in Columbia Thursday so Michael could go to the USC football game, came home Friday to unpack/repack, and left Saturday morning for Alabama. Lily was an ANGEL on the 6 hour ride there (and back on Monday), and we were so proud of her! She also did GREAT with the babysitter we hired to sneak in after she was in bed and make sure that Lily and her baby doll entourage would be safe in the event of a hotel fire because we wanted to stay out past Lily’s bedtime.
Oh, but we didn’t TELL Lily that she had a babysitter.
Shhhhh…
We were so happy to see the whole West family, and wish that everyone lived closer. Stefanie and her husband, Rob, live in Austin, TX with their precious little boy, Weston. He is almost 2, and this was the first time we have met him, and we were so excited! Alas, we did not get any pictures, but you’ll have to take my word for it that he’s ADORABLE. And that boy can boogie!
We also got to spend lots of time with Molley and Edward Clarkson and their two gorgeous kiddos, Libby and Andy. Andy, to Lily’s delight, was a BABY! BABY! BABY!, and she was more than happy to point that out to the Clarkson’s in case they had forgotten there was a baby in the room. Libby is almost 3, and was SO sweet to Lily. She liked baby dolls and dancing just as much as Lily does, so it was a natural fit! Here’s Libby dancing with Lily at the wedding:
Here’s the only picture I got of Ashley, dancing with her dad.
Wedding dances really make me cry now that I have a little girl.
*sniff, sniff*
I mean, you have to cry when you think about all the daddies who will have to watch their babies grow up and move away from home.
I mean, WE obviously won’t have to deal with that because our baby would never grow up and leave us, but thinking about the other daddies.
It really gets me choked up.
Here’s our one family picture from the trip (thanks, Robin!). I’ll pretend Lily was SUPER thirsty rather than saying that she pitched a hissy fit when we tried to take her cup away because she was chewing on the straw. I think a disposable cup adds to the formality of the picture.
At least it matches her dress?
Here’s Lily with her other dance partner, Gracie.
Sadly, I had so few pictures that this was one of the “good ones” (i.e. “ones I had”).
Stefanie asked me a month or so ago how I was able to get good pictures of Lily, because Weston is so active she’s always getting blurry shots of the back of his head.
Ummm…clearly we are entering that phase as well.
By the stage, they had a rope swing, and here is Michael trying to convince Lily that the swing is only for baby dolls, and not for real children.
How in the world he actually pulled that off, I’ll never know, but I was very appreciative!
Spending the rest of the night with her shouting “Weeeeeee!” might have ruined the ambiance.
In sum, congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, and I vote that everyone we know move to Greenville.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Love,
