Today is Michael’s birthday!
Happy Birthday, Michael / Dada!
Although Lily is starting to talk, I think that singing “Happy Birthday” will have to wait for Daddy’s next birthday since all she does is grin and clap whenever she hears anyone sing it. So, I decided to modify the lyrics a little so that Lily could help me sing to Daddy. We practiced during lunch, and some in the car this afternoon, and I think she did pretty well! (Please excuse my singing, of course!)
Here are the lunch sessions…I wasn’t too sure this was going to work by the end of lunch. But to be fair, macaroni and cheese are a little bit distracting! Fortunately, she really got it together when it was show time. [I’m sure you’ll be sick of my singing by the end if you aren’t already…sorry about that!]
This last video is what we hear, all day long.
“Lily, can Mommy give you a kiss?”
No, no
“Lily, can Daddy hold your hand?”
No, no.
“Lily, can you say, ‘car’?”
No, no.
Yes, she even tells me “no” when I ask her if she can say a word that she can’t say. It’s “no, no” as if to say, “no, I can’t say ‘car,’ Mama, and you know very well I cannot yet make a hard ‘c’ sound. Quit bugging me about it.”
Interestingly, if you ask her to say “cat,” she will now say “mow mow.” It’s really cute, but I don’t think I have it on tape yet.
Lily’s other contribution to Michael’s birthday was the creation of some beautiful artwork for Michael’s office. :-)
Oh, baby…you shouldn’t have!
It looks like smeared condiments, I know, but it’s actually just finger paint.
Oh, and stickers.
Glittery mermaid stickers.
Because that is what she picked out at the store. I tried to steer her toward the cars or the Superman stickers for Daddy’s art, but she kept coming back to these, and after she folded the whole package in half, she had made her point that we would not be leaving the store without buying them. I felt she did a slightly better job of distributing her stickers this time…what an artist!
Unfortunately, due to the time constraints of her busy library and playdate schedule, she is unable to accept commissions at this time.
She also decorated the envelope for her card for Michael. I, of course, did write “daddy” on it, but the other drawing and artful sticker application is 100% Lily Bogle.
In case you are wondering why Michael’s birthday is so patriotic, you may remember that Lily loves flags, and she is always wanting to hold some flags that Michael has in his home office. However, they aren’t really something that he wants our little lady to destroy, so she gave him some new flags to keep in his office that she can hold when she goes in there to visit with him.
Giving a gift that gives back to you. Always a smart move.
Love,
