Baby Soup

For reasons I don’t even understand myself, I got it in my head that I needed to do something crafty for Lily.  It’s hard to craft for a baby who still sticks everything her mouth, so I decided to go with something made of fabric.

But I don’t sew, so that was a slight hiccup in my plan.  I decided to make a stuffed character out of felt using only minimal blanket stitching and a hot glue gun.  Fancy, huh?

The character is from a pattern I found on nickjr.com.  Lily doesn’t get to watch TV often, mostly just when she’s sick or when I absolutely need to talk on the phone and can’t have her following me around and shouting, “uh uh uh ” (translation: up, up, up) just because I’m on the phone.

Because she does that.

Now, I don’t want to say that that’s annoying.

So, ummm….I’ll just move right along here…

I’m so incredibly thorough, that here’s a picture of her watching TV right after I got off the phone.

Fascinating stuff, right?  The socks are leftover from her nap.  I know she looks like a dork with knee socks and a halter dress, but don’t tell her, please.  I’m her fashion muse.

Lord help her.

Anyway, when she was sick a few weeks ago…wait a minute.  Did I ever tell you she was sick?  I can’t remember and am too lazy to go back and read my own blog.  Maybe if it wasn’t so wordy, but I mean, come on…who has time to read all that?

Well, in case I didn’t tell you, Lily had her first REAL sickness a few weeks ago.  After waking up in a sea of her own vomit (YUCK), the poor thing continued to vomit every 30-45 minutes for the next few hours.  It was misery for her, and we felt so badly for her.  She would get upset and start crying right before she threw up each time, reaching for us to hug her with the most pathetic look, and we are terrible parents and just patted her on the back while letting her vomit in her bib.

Poor, poor, poor, poor baby.  Just broke our hearts.

In between bouts of vomiting, she was pathetically listless and snugly, but wasn’t really fussy.  Just no energy.  So basically, all we did that day was snuggle with her and watch Nick Jr. On Demand.  Specifically, Yo Gabba Gabba, which is a kinda bizarre show that we only knew about because it was mocked on “The Soup.”  Pretty great criteria for choosing a kids’ show for our own kid, right?  We’ll line up right now to receive our parenting award.

Excuse my lack of makeup and hair-brushing, but I had more important things to tend to.  Note her bib for catching her vomit – it was actually very effective.

By evening, she was feeling better, so we were very relieved.  She GOBBLED up some chicken and stars soup, my friends.  Phew!

So, back to my original topic.  I wanted to make something crafty for Lily this week, and decided to make her a little stuffed character named Foofa from Yo Gabba Gabba.

Let me reiterate – I have no idea why in the world I thought this was a useful way to spend my time, but it really didn’t take very long with my fancy glue-gunning and all.

In spite of the silliness of the project, Lily did actually like it.

She alternated between calling it “Fuh fuh fuh” (Foofa) and "baby.”

And then my bizarre little girl made soup with it.

After a nice bowl of Foofa stew, she was a bit more predictable and added her to the ever-present pile of babies on her stroller and tried to add a cereal box sample as well.  I’m REALLY hoping she wasn’t still trying to cook with her babies at this point.  Between baby/Foofa soup and her calling yogurt “baby,” this is getting a bit disturbing.
