Just so you know, my laptop is broken.
Deader than dead.
Limped in for surgery, and then died on the operating table.
And was sloppily thrown back together in time for me to collect the remains.
Tragic, I know.
So, after a few weeks of research mourning, I will soon be getting a new laptop. Newer. Shinier. Bigger. With more storage space to indulge my digital packrat-ness.
In the meantime, it’s hard for me to figure out how to manage all of my files. I think most of them were recovered onto my external hard drive, but it’s daunting to go through trying to sort everything out while working off of our old desktop until I get the new computer.
As I am falling further behind every day, I should probably give up on my commitment to go back and blog about all that I am behind on before blogging about the present. My original goals for this blog were 1)to create a digital baby book for Lily, and 2) to keep family and friends updated since many live so far away. Since I’m not doing such a bang-up job of either, I guess I should resolve to just blog when I have time and go back and fill in the gaps as I can.
So what did we do TODAY?
Bouncing Babies at the library this morning (we go every Thursday), where Lily got her fill of music, dancing, bubbles, instruments, and books. This was followed by playtime with her “friends” from that class.
I learned today that Lily can apparently now “shake shake your hands now” and “make your hands go up…make your hands go down” at the appropriate parts in one of her favorite library songs, and does some clapping-ish movements by patting the back of one hand with the other.
She gnawed on a baby doll (a new favorite pastime) the library staff had out for the kids to play with.
She threw a ball that was nearly as big as herself over and over again, and looked so dang pleased…precious!
She drooled up a storm (she hasn’t drooled in months, really, so I’m guessing we have more teeth on the way…she already has 8!).
She flirted and waved (hello and goodbye) at everyone at Sam’s.
She had a meltdown in Publix because I wouldn’t let her gnaw her way through the plastic wrapper to get to the cheese we were buying. Not one of the highlights of our day, but what can you do? {No, seriously…what can you do?!?} She perked up at the checkout, though, because there were people who needed to be waved to, and balloons that needed to be be pointed at.
She points at EVERYTHING, to show me something she thinks is cool, to tell me what she wants, to answer questions (i.e. where is your bed…Annabelle Kittykins…shoes…feet…light…door…mommy…daddy…birds…trees…ball…flowers…cat…dog…and on and on – she knows SO many words now), and sometimes she just points as if to just say, “Hey, Mama? Tell me about all of this stuff over here.” She truly seems to want to know the names of things, and responds so quickly these days. Yesterday, I pointed out the “ceiling” and “floor” to her during lunchtime. Today, she can point to the “ceiling” and “floor” on command.
Wow.
I don’t even have any new pictures uploaded on this computer, but I wanted to provide some sort of update. As far as you poor blog readers know, Lily is frozen in time…an almost-7-month old who can’t crawl and who just started sleeping through the night. Well, one day I hope to catch you up on how we got here, but I suddenly find myself with a delightful 10 and a half month old I just can’t get enough of. For the record, she takes two naps a day, still sleeps through the night, and is an excellent crawler. She cruises all over the place, walks around pushing a walker or her baby doll stroller (no independent steps yet which I am in NO rush for), and can stand without holding onto anything for 30-45 seconds. She is a hilarious, giggling, zoo-loving, jabbering little dingbat, as well as the light of our lives.
Oh, and bald.
Still bald.
